GRAPHIC DESIGNThese designs were created using a broad range of media, sometimes in concert, including: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and gouache and ink. In some cases there was a sketch phase in pen and ink or gouache, in other cases it was more practical to sculpt the designs in Adobe Illustrator or block them in with Adobe Photoshop.

Scenic/set designStarting in 2017 I began creating backdrops for ballet performances by my local dance studio. The work was created in gouache, scaled up in digital and printed 40ft x 20ft.

graffiti/MuralIn 2015 I began creating "graffiti" of a sort to bring high art and ideas to public spaces in the hopes of offering inspiration and an aesthetic experience in banal and poorly kept spaces. Ultimately the works inspired the institution to finally paint the bathroom walls and cover the work.
Following the backlash, I painted a new, better Rembrandt study on canvas as a response, and defaced it with the type of graffiti it had frequently been surrounded by. If an artist painting in public spaces can't deal with the fact of impermanence, they should get out of the game. If you have skill and speed at your command, you don't need to mourn the loss of your scribbles. |
